New Yorkers Take Flight
The birds soar over New York Harbor and begin to descend and as each one lands, it transforms: a sparrow becomes a construction worker, a hawk becomes a teacher, a starling becomes a performer, a falcon becomes a bodega owner, a dove becomes a surgeon each person rising to their feet and stepping into the city, becoming New York.
Scene 2 -
Lady Liberty
Lady Liberty enters Ellis Island and walks the halls until she finds a crowd of black and white archival people who look up at her in wonder.
She bends down and scoops them into her cupped hands with tender love and one by one they lift from her palms and dissolve into birds, rising in a sweeping flock out through the windows and into the open New York sky.".
